Shark Dive

Location: Nassau, Bahamas

This was a new one for me. I'm not afraid of sharks, but I have to admit my heart was racing when the feeding frenzy began. They told us not to move and to keep our hands tucked under our armpits, lest a shark mistake a waving hand for a piece of fish! Anyone who dives knows buoyancy control can be tricky, especially when there's a current, so sitting still on the bottom was no easy challenge. Oh, and the sharks bump you as they go by. It's a little intense the first time.

Watching the dive leaders play with the sharks was a trip. They come and feed them every day, so they can recognize them and have given them all names. Although they wear chainmail, it's crazy to watch them break every rule they just gave you! Then you realize: Sharks are just like pit bulls. They're dangerous animals if you approach them the wrong way or are unfamiliar to them, but once they get to know you ...
